The Decade of Action for Road Safety Tag projected onto the Moscow State University Building

EASST Russia

EASST is cooperating with the Russian Traffic Police Department and Colonel General Victor Kiryanov, Deputy Minister of Interior of the Russian Federation. General Kiryanov is currently in charge of transport safety in Russia.

In April 2011 EASST organized a visit by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Interior, headed by General Kiryanov, to the Surface Transport and Traffic Operations Centre (STTOC) in London. The STTOC plays a major road safety role in London, managing 11 million car and motorcycle trips, over 5 million bus journeys, nearly 6 million pedestrians, half a million cyclists and 200,000 taxi trips a day. It is a good example of a successful partnership bringing together the London Buses Command and Control Centre, the London Streets Traffic Control Centre and the Metropolitan Police Traffic Operation Control Centre. They cooperate in monitoring, controlling and policing London's road transport. This cooperation makes it possible to respond quickly to any incidents, effectively enforce road safety, and ensure a more fluid movement of traffic. EASST also organised a working meeting between General Kiryanov and Chief Superintendent Bert Moore, Head of Heathrow Airport police unit. Both meetings proved very useful, and it was agreed that such an exchange of opinions and experience should be continued.
